Sr. Manager - Category Lead
The Category Lead is responsible for the development of the short and Medium (0-12 month) category strategy that delivers the customer experience and the financial goals of the business. They are a key conduit for the vendors covering all areas from ecommerce, demand planning, fulfilment, and merchandising responsibilities. The position will lead and approve assortment and promotional strategies, product selection and sourcing, and pricing and vendor negotiations within the overall category strategy. This person will manage the Analysts to make sure that all the individual functions across merchandising, demand planning, forecasting, fulfilment, and ecommerce all happen, and the team functions as one unit against the goals of the business. This is not for a specific category, but for the position/level overall across Category Management.
What you will do: Lead and approve assortment and promotional strategies, product selection and sourcing, and pricing and vendor management and negotiations within the overall category strategy.
Oversee all forecasting and budgeting responsibilities, orders, and distribution of products, inclusive of understanding inventory levels and making sure we are accomplishing owned inventory and in-stock goals.
Utilize customer and industry insights to develop multi-channel vendor, assortment, solutions, pricing and promotional strategies to guide business planning and execution. Provide and communicate strategic input to Marketing, Retail and Merchant Operations.
Work in partnership with the exclusive brands team to develop a detailed category roadmap across, and up to, 4 brands and collaborate with their teams on cross-functional partners to create a digital-first approach in the ecommerce space.
Manage three different types of analysts and need to aid in development and career planning. This person will need to have general management experience and have the background knowledge to manage and lead the team across all the different functions of running a category.
eCommerce and Fulfillment Review, understand and integrate category digital analytics and customer needs.
Supports fulfilment strategy to not only achieve in stock goals, but also achieve the vision of moving to customer access within 24-hour period.
Works with Vendors and Analyst to make sure content and product positioning is happening online. Videos, content, messages are all responsibilities of the Category Lead.
Basic Qualifications
4 years retail industry experience, with background in functions such as merchandising/buying, demand planning, ecommerce, marketing, operations, customer experience, vendor management, supply chain, etc.
Proven leadership skills, inclusive of cross functional team management, providing clear work direction, career and performance coaching and/or mentorship and influencing both with and without authority
Strong written and verbal communication skills with both internal and external partners
Preferred Qualifications
4 years of dedicated functional experience in merchandising, demand/inventory planning, eCommerce site management, or merchandise planning
Ability to operate in high pressure and time sensitive situations
Ability to synthesize multiple sources of data and make decisions accordingly
Experience in short and mid-term strategy development and execution
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent industry experience
