ALL ABOUT VISUAL MERCHANDISING
A Visual Merchandiser is passionate about creating inspiring moments that bring in-store presentations to life. With their experience and merchandise staging skills, our guests discover new looks and bring their definition of style to life with confidence. Visual Merchandisers are welcoming and helpful in meeting guests needs’ by providing new ideas, outfitting and accessorizing to help build the basket.
At Target, we believe in our team members having meaningful experiences that help them build and develop skills for a career. The role of a Visual Merchandiser can provide you with the:
• Knowledge of guest service fundamentals and experience building a guest first culture across the store
• Knowledge of retail business fundamentals: department sales trends, inventory management, guest shopping patterns, pricing and promotions strategies
• Knowledge building of industry trends in the following areas: Style, Home and Seasonal
• Ability to create visual moments and execute visual merchandising standards that inspire guests to add to their basket
As a Visual Merchandiser, no two days are ever the same, but a typical day will most likely include the following responsibilities:
• Know your store sales goals, top and bottom departments, inventory levels and guest shopping patterns
• Inspire guests to discover solutions through compelling visual merchandising in style categories
• Focus on outfitting, accessorizing (A&A), displaying multiples (Home), newness and trend
• Leverage daily interactions and huddles to teach Style Consultants about visual priorities and creating outfits to support building the basket for each guest
• Solve merchandising issues and adjust sets to create and maintain inspiring presentations
• Teach and influence A&A clearance guiding principles
• Partner with A&A team on solving new merchandising opportunities as product arrives and is stocked by the Style team
• Assess store visual standards to elevate visual presentations in Apparel and Accessories, Mannequin Moments, Baby Focal, Home Innovation Space (Front and Black Flats), Home Focals and Trend Runs, Trim A Tree, Outdoor Living, Next Gen (Gift’N’Go, Trend Spot, Kids/Perf Node, Fan Node)
• Provide service and a shopping experience that meets the needs of the guest
• Always demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety and compliance
• All other duties based on business needs

The good news is that we have some amazing training that will help teach you everything you need to know to be a Visual Merchandiser. But there are a few skills you should have from the get-go:
• 1-2 years of visual merchandising experience
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Must be at least 18 years of age or older
• Business acumen (i.e. margin, profitability, etc.) and creativity to inspire guests and drive sales
• Strong understanding of trend and style that is reflective of our brand
• Learn and adapt to current technology needs
• Work independently and as part of a team
• Manage workload and prioritize tasks independently
• Welcoming and helpful attitude
• Effective communication skills

• Interpret instructions, reports and information
• Accurately handle cash register operations
• Climb up and down ladders
• Scan, handle and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting or moving merchandise up to 15 pounds and occasionally lifting or moving merchandise up to 40 pounds
• Flexible work schedule (e.g., nights, weekends and holidays) and regular attendance necessary
